1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature, plus more for greasing the pan
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour 
½ tsp baking powder 
½ tsp salt 
½ cup vegetable shortening
2 cups sugar 
5 large eggs, room temperature 
1 cup milk 
2 tsp vanilla extract 

For the Glaze
1 jar Goody Dates Spread
1 Velor sweetened condensed milk


1.Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a 25cm tube pan with butter.
2.Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Set aside.
3.With an electric mixer, cream the 1 cup butter, the shortening and the sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one a time, beating well after each addition. With the motor running, add the flour mixture and the milk alternately, beginning and ending with the flour. Add the vanilla.
4.Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 1 hour. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the cake; it should come out clean. Cool the cake in the pan for 30 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
5.For the glaze in a medium bowl, add the date spread with the condensed milk put in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm. Mix well until it forms as a thick sauce like glaze
6.Pour glaze over cooled cake and do not spread. Serve.
