This innovative twist on matazeez is a must-make. Rather than serving the rich, aromatic tomato and meat-based stew with flat dumplings, we’ve taken the dish in a new direction (which also happens to be quicker to prepare), by folding the sauce through pasta instead. With our matazeez with penne you can enjoy a taste of tradition, any day of the week.

In a pot over medium heat, heat the oil and add the onions and the whole spices; stir together until the onions wilt; then reduce the heat and add the garlic; stir for 10minutes.
Add the meat cubes, the spices, and the sugar and stir together until the meat turns brown. Add the tomato juice, the sauce, the bell peppers, the salt and pepper; stir together for 5 minutes. Afterwards, add the stock and let the mixture boil for 30 minutes or until the meat is cooked.
Add the vegetables to the mixture, and let them boil together for 15 minutes or until they are cooked well. Add the pasta and leave the mixture over the heat until the pasta is cooked; then garnish with parsley and serve.
